Production Underway on Whodunit Hockey Comedy DYING SECONDS from Sports-Comedy Veteran Brendan Halloran

TORONTO (December 12, 2024) – It’s giving “skating on thin ice” a whole new meaning. From the award-winning team, consisting of writer, actor, producer, and sports media creative turned comedic storyteller Brendan Halloran (Space Janitors, Sportscentre), renowned, innovative producer Davin Lengyel (Space Janitors, Deep Six), and multi-faceted director/filmmaker Samantha Wan (Space Janitors, Second Jen), the cutting-edge new dark comedy Dying Seconds (6x15) is now in production in Toronto, Oshawa, and Hamilton until mid-December. The series will stream worldwide on YouTube in Spring 2025.

L to R: Emma Hunter and Dylan Taylor in Dying Seconds

A darkly hilarious, razor-sharp series that puts a satirical spin on the cutthroat world of professional hockey, Dying Seconds is a whodunit comedy about winning at all costs - even if it kills you. Kevin remembers where he was when the Hamilton Hammers lost their 15th consecutive game. Good thing, too, because he needs an alibi. When the general manager of Hamilton’s pro hockey team is found murdered in the front office, it shakes the franchise to its core. The staff are paranoid. It’s a mystery. But on the other hand… there’s a job opening.

"I know a thing or two about what it's like to have both the best and worst moments of your life within days of each other. That challenge of navigating the highest of highs and lowest of lows simultaneously was the inspiration for Dying Seconds,” said Halloran. “Hockey is a sport where the stakes are high, the rivalries are fierce, and the drama is endless - what better backdrop for a comedy about murder and ambition? I’m incredibly lucky to work with such a talented team to bring this chaotic, laugh-out-loud mystery to life."

"Pulling off a killer web series like this - pun intended - is a full-contact sport itself. This cast and crew are truly championship material, and I can’t wait to see the magic they’ll make on screen,” said Lengyel. “Whether you’re a sports fan, a comedy lover, or some combination of the two, Dying Seconds will deliver the laughs you’re looking for.”

Dying Seconds boasts an all-Canadian cast of comedic talent, including Dylan Taylor (CBC’s Workin' Moms, HBO Max’s Station Eleven) as Kevin Felton, the newly appointed GM of the Hamilton Hammers; Emma Hunter (CBC’s Moonshine, CTV’s The Beaverton) as Anna Del Vecchio, a novice detective; and Rong Fu (CBS’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, CBC Gem’s Hello (Again)) as Marion, the team's beleaguered Director of Communications.

Dying Seconds is created by Brendan Halloran and produced by Davin Lengyel and Halloran, with Halloran also serving as writer alongside Mark De Angelis and Wendy Litner. The series is directed by Samantha Wan.

The series went to camera with the support of the Bell Fund, Ontario Creates IDM Fund, and the Independent Production Fund.
