– First spotlighted in JFL’s inaugural Pilots Program, the hockey whodunit comedy makes its official debut on the Just For Laughs YouTube channel –
TORONTO (September 16, 2025) – The puck’s not the only thing dropping this season. Dying Seconds (6x15), a murder mystery laced with slapshots of satire and Canadian wit from Canadian Screen Award and WGC Screenwriting Award winner and sports-comedy veteran Brendan Halloran (Space Janitors, Sportscentre) and Canadian Screen Award-winning producer Davin Lengyel (Space Janitors, Macy Murdoch), makes its world premiere in partnership with Just For Laughs on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Launching on JFL’s YouTube channel, the first three episodes of the web series will drop on premiere day, with the remaining three to roll out weekly.

Debuting at the 2025 Just For Laughs Montreal Festival, Dying Seconds was the only Canadian pilot project selected for JFL Pilots, presented by Just For Laughs in partnership with Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue – a showcase of bold, innovative comedy voices from around the world. Standing out for its sharp writing, satirical edge, and distinctly Canadian perspective, the series quickly caught the attention of JFL’s development team, who recognized its potential to resonate with audiences well beyond the festival stage.
“Dying Seconds stood out to us from the beginning. The creative team’s ability to blend Canadian humour with a unique spin on the mystery genre is exactly the kind of comedy JFL champions,” said Spencer Griffin, Executive Producer, Head of Development & Creative Strategy at Just For Laughs. “At JFL, we discover, develop, and deliver comedy from all over the world, and we’re thrilled to help this series reach audiences everywhere.”
“Being one of only four selections for JFL Pilots was already an incredible honour, and now to have Dying Seconds premiere under the Just For Laughs banner feels incredible,” said Halloran, who also serves as showrunner and writer. “We couldn’t ask for a better partner to help bring this chaotic, offbeat comedy to fans.”
The darkly hilarious, razor-sharp series puts a satirical spin on the cutthroat world of professional hockey and winning at all costs – even if it kills you. Kevin remembers where he was when the Hamilton Hammers lost their 15th consecutive game. Good thing, too, because he needs an alibi. When the general manager of Hamilton’s pro hockey team is found murdered in the front office, it shakes the franchise to its core. The staff are paranoid. It’s a mystery. But on the other hand… there’s a job opening.
The series stars Dylan Taylor (Workin’ Moms, Station Eleven) as Kevin Felton, the newly appointed GM of the Hamilton Hammers; Emma Hunter (Moonshine, The Beaverton) as Anna Del Vecchio, a novice detective; and Rong Fu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Hello (Again)) as Marion, the team’s beleaguered Director of Communications.
Dying Seconds is created by Brendan Halloran and produced by Davin Lengyel and Halloran, with Halloran also serving as writer alongside Mark De Angelis and Wendy Litner. The series is directed by Samantha Wan. Production was supported by the Bell Fund, Ontario Creates IDM Fund, and the Independent Production Fund.
